(FAQ'S)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Am
I guaranteed of finding the person using your service?
If a search returns NO REPORT based on your search information,
PEOPLE FINDERS AMERICA refunds your money, less a $10.00 handling charge. However,
when a search is performed based on your information, and results are returned,
we cannot give you a guarantee, nor could anyone else, without charging a great
deal more for the service. People Finders America is highly successful. But in
those cases where it does not work, you at least have not spent a fortune to make
the attempt.
Are
there people who cannot be found?
Certainly,
but they are a relatively small percentage if you are persistent enough. People
who are trying not to be found and change their name, use another social security
number (not legal), move frequently, etc. may not be found at all , without extensive
investigative work.
Do
I need to hire a private investigator or other search consultant?
Maybe (see above comment), but most often not. It depends
upon the circumstances and what information you know about the person. In any
event, you should exhaust your own initiative and make use of publicly available
information in libraries and from a service such as People Finders America before
you do hire an investigator. We have heard numerous stories from people who have
spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars using consultants and investigators
with no success, then use our service and find their person quickly and inexpensively.
Is
searching using a social security number a good way to search and, if so, how
can I get someone's social security number?
Using
a social security number is a very good way to conduct a search, one of the best.
You cannot obtain Social Security Numbers for whom you are looking for from the
Social Security Administration or other government entities. However, you may
be able to find one from your own research. If you are looking for a family member,
documents with that person's name on them such as tax returns, driver licenses,
and often, divorce decrees, will usually contain a social. Since about 1972, all
military services have used the social security number as military ID, so an old
roster from your unit may contain the number.
Will
the Social Security Administration help me locate someone?
No,
they are prevented by law from giving you information on someone's address or
whereabouts. The Social Security Administration does have a program where they
will, in very limited circumstances, forward an unsealed address in the mail for
you to the address in their files. If that person receives the mailing and if
they choose to respond, you might make contact. However, if there is no response
or if the mailing comes back undeliverable, you are not notified.
Are
there nonprofit organizations that help adopted persons locate their birth parents?
Yes, there are a number of organizations that can
give you advice and support on going through this often difficult process when
you have very little to go on. If you call us, we would be happy to provide you
with some organizations phone numbers. Also, there a re several very good books
written on this subject.
Is
it more difficult searching for a woman if all I know is her name?
No question that searching for a female there is
a good possibility she is no longer going by the same name you know of. Try searching
for a known male relative that may be able to help you ex. brother, father, uncle.
Also, if the last name is unusual, oftentimes searching for anyone with that last
name will produce one or more relatives previously unkown to you that may be able
to help you further your search.
